Performing my first wedding ceremony as an ordained priest in the Church of Latter Day Dudes tomorrow . Wish me luck. Have some Cactus Ed in these trying times.

Is it hard to choose a vehicle now that you've got two good adventure-y options?

As someone from Hawaii I always ask people if they know what dakine means!?

Not really. The tundra makes loading up a lot easier, and gets the same if not better fuel economy than the Jeep, which I’ll probably sell soon. We camped out of my wife’s BMW for years and camped all up and down the west coast with it, so anything with clearance and 4wd is gravy.

I camp out around Kauai every other summer, and while I know what dakine means in Hawaiian, I don’t use it out of fear of looking like a okole (I’m a desert rat, but of fair skinned heritage).
We could see the Ni’ihau from this beach, last stand of the last pure Hawaiians.

Well at least you know, most people have no idea. I know that beach. My friend is Hawaiian, his brother is on Ni’ihau. I can go to a few places with him there that are off limits. He volunteers at the archeological sites, I was an archeology major.

You'll at least be painting the Tundra yellow, right?

That’s some cool shit. I never had any desire to go to Hawaii, but my MIL convinced me to go on family trip to Kauai years ago, promising me some good hiking trails . Talked with some locals while drinking on the beach and they pointed me to some cool spots. Have camped around the island every other year for the last six years or so . Backpacked down the Waimea with my girls a few years ago.
Lot of surprising similarities between Kauai and the Sonoran desert.

Oh yeah plenty of hiking. You should go on a Captain Andy’s smaller boat and they go to a few spots on the coast. My friend works there and they can stop at one of the beaches with limited access and an archeological site. Don’t take the big boat. Yeah there are spots around the islands people would never think were in Hawaii, like Waimea on the Big Island, there are pine trees and it doesn’t look anything like what people expect.

I did a Captain Andy’s tour a few years ago on a small raft to the Na’Pali coast. May have met your friend as that’s where I first learned of the Ni’hau. Two Hawaiian brothers were our guides. Some Marin Co. looking lady asked about “haloes” and they gave her a nice history lesson.

Probably was him, they are fluent in Hawaiian. I was out with him before Xmas, we found maybe 100 dolphins, I jumped in and filmed it. Some big monk seals out as well.

Small world. We hit a pod when I was out. Bunch of baby dolphins mixed in too. Had a whale surface near our boat which scared the shit out of everyone. They took us to a beach with an archeological site and there were a handful of sea turtles hanging out.

It’s like, “that thing” you can’t remember. It’s kind of a catch all. You can also say, “ you dakine” , with is you’re the best etc.. “Oh brah I saw dakine today” or “let’s go get dakine”
